BIOGRAPHY
John J. Ropp, President & CEO, Michigan Wildlife Conservancy.
John Ropp has extensive experience running several businesses, both for-profit and non-profit. Before coming to the Michigan Wildlife Conservancy, he was President and CEO of the Michigan Boating Industries Association. John's business and fundraising experience will assist the organization with future growth.
Ropp has a tremendous track record of successfully indentifying and implementing changes necessary to improve financial conditions. He has developed an expertise with evaluating organizations and guiding them through an effective change management period required for the long term overall health of the business – as he has demonstrated in each of his recent leadership positions.
Ropp grew up in Concord, a small rural village in Western Jackson County. After college he moved to Colorado for 15 years where he was the Executive Director for the U.S. Ski Team Passport, an official fund-raising membership for the U.S. (Olympic) Ski Team. Prior to the Ski Team, he was the Eastern Director for the American Ski Association living in New York City and Annapolis, Maryland for brief periods. Since returning home to Michigan he has worked primarily in the non-profit sector including five years as the Executive Director of a local United Way. John’s adult life has been split between Colorado and small town Michigan – but his appreciation for nature, wildlife and the environment has remained unchanged. He is an avid advocate for preserving our wetlands and rural areas, providing a natural habitat for our waterfowl and wildlife.
