Cougar Tracking School Scheduled

The new year has brought many requests from citizens who want to be trained to recognized cougar tracks and other signs. The Conservancy is responding by scheduling a daylong cougar tracking seminar for Saturday, May 15, 2004, at the Bengel Wildlife Center.

The session will highlight information on the biology and natural history of the cougar, recognition of scat and the various signs of the cat, cougar behavior and feeding habits, and how volunteers can make a contribution to preserving the species. The class will be taught by Dr. Patrick Rusz, leader of the cougar field work, Dennis Fijalkowski, Executive Director, and other experienced field people.

The seminar will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The cost is $50 for members and $75 for non-members and a box lunch will be included. Tuition also includes a 54-page field guide, ÒDetecting Cougars in the Great Lakes Region,Ó written by Dr. Rusz, and a Cougar Country T-shirt. Enrollment in the school is by reservation only, and will be limited to 40 participants.
